This website is jointly operated by two private individuals based in the Netherlands and is intended for informational and educational purposes.

2. Hosting and security

This website is hosted through Cloudflare Pages.

Cloudflare may process limited technical information necessary to deliver and secure the website, including:

IP address
Requested pages
Browser and device information
Date and time of requests
General location derived from the IP address
Security and diagnostic information

This processing is necessary to operate, protect, and maintain the website.

3. Cloudflare Web Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how the website is used and to improve its content and performance.

Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies or local storage and is not intended to track individual visitors across websites.

4. Google Analytics and cookies

We also use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the website.

Google Analytics is only activated after you click “Accept cookies” in the cookie banner. When you reject analytics cookies, Google Analytics is not used to track your activity on this website.

Google Analytics uses cookies, including the _ga cookie, to distinguish visitors and sessions. We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, or other directly identifying information to Google Analytics.

If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter, we process the email address you enter, together with a label identifying which page or series the signup form appeared on. The label helps us understand which content leads people to subscribe; it does not identify you.

How subscribing works. Submitting the form does not subscribe you. Your address is created in an unconfirmed state and you are sent a confirmation email. You are only added to the list when you click the link in that email. If you never click it, you receive nothing further.

Purpose. We use your address solely to send occasional emails about new posts and series on this website. We do not use it for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it.

Legal basis. Your consent, given by confirming through the email described above. You can withdraw your consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in the footer of every email we send, or by contacting us at the address in section 1. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.

Retention. Your address remains on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it, after which it is deleted or retained only as a suppression record so we do not email you again by mistake. Addresses that are never confirmed are removed by our email provider.

Our email provider. The list is managed by Kit (formerly ConvertKit), based in the United States. Kit stores your address, records your consent, and handles sending, unsubscribes, and bounce processing on our behalf. Kit may also record technical information relating to the emails, such as delivery status. We do not store your address on our own infrastructure: the subscription form passes it to Kit and retains nothing.

Limited information may be processed by:

Cloudflare, for hosting, security, performance, and website analytics
Google, for analytics after cookie consent
Kit, for newsletter subscription management and sending, if you subscribe

Cloudflare, Google, and Kit operate internationally. Information may therefore be processed outside the European Economic Area using applicable data-protection safeguards.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

Access: ask whether we process personal data about you, and receive a copy of it
Rectification: have inaccurate data corrected
Erasure: have your data deleted
Restriction: ask us to limit how your data is used
Objection: object to processing carried out on the basis of our legitimate interests
Portability: receive data you provided to us in a structured, commonly used format
Withdraw consent: withdraw consent for analytics cookies or the newsletter at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address in section 1. We respond within one month.

In practice, the only personal data we can link to an individual is a newsletter subscription. Website and analytics information is not stored in a form that lets us identify you, so we may be unable to act on a request relating to it. In that case we will explain why rather than guess at a match.

If you believe your data is not being handled properly, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or with the supervisory authority in your country of residence.

We may update this Privacy Policy when our website, services, or legal obligations change.
